Surrealist games are fun, but they are more than that. As historian Robin DG Kelly eloquently puts it that ‘by plunging into the depths of the unconscious and lessening “the contradiction between everyday life and our wildest dreams,” we can enter or realize the domain of the Marvelous. Surrealism is no mere artistic movement like cubism or impressionism, and it is not primarily concerned with art. Surrealism is about making a new life.’ This workshop is an invitation for the community to collectively make a new life. It is an invitation to connect with the otherwise, the dreams, the unexpected, the marvellous. It is an invitation to connect with one another and allow for collective art to emerge. As part of the workshop, we will explore the surrealist movement and play surrealist games.
